It’s around 84 in my house, but I am refusing to run my air conditioner on principle. It is fucking November. Almost December! It should not be this hot. I’m not asking for snow or anything, just, you know, not temperatures that pass for summertime elsewhere in the country.
Yes, I just blogged about the weather. AT LEAST I DID NOT DISCUSS MY BREAKFAST. What’s that you say? Oh! You want to hear about my breakfast? I’m happy to accommodate your wishes in this matter.
For breakfast today, like almost every day, I had a smoothie. “Just a smoothie!?”, you exclaim incredulously? I should hasten to clarify that when I say a smoothie, what I really mean is a blender-full of smoothie. So more like, I don’t know, four smoothies? Needless to say it leaves me quite full and fueled for the day.
What’s that? You want to know what I put in my smoothies? Well, as far as the solids go, they are approximately 50% veggies and 50% fruit. Yes, I know, veggies in a smoothie — I was dubious at first also! But as long as you don’t select veggies with strong tastes, you don’t even notice them. I tend to use spinach, kale, and carrots. For the fruits, I use a wide variety, depending on my mood. Apples (green apple smoothies are delicious), pears, peaches, bananas, plums, pineapples, berries, papayas, mango, cranberries, rhubarb, and probably other stuff I’m forgetting. Mostly I buy fresh fruit, but some of it I buy frozen (primarily berries — which go bad too quickly non-frozen — and the rhubarb and cranberries, which are more readily available frozen). To turn this into a smoothie rather than a sludge I add fruit juice — again, I mix it up with a variety of juices (provided they have no sugar or artificial sweeteners added — just juice). Finally, I add in some supplements — B vitamins and protein powder. For protein I like to vary my sources, so I don’t rely on any one too much. I don’t use soy protein, since I get enough soy from other sources. I use hemp, rice, and some which are made from a blend of vegetable sources.
Ok, so I’ve talked about the weather and my most recent meal… Is there anything else I should discuss to turn this into the worst blog entry ever? Fortunately for you I’m drawing a blank, so I’ll bring this abomination to a close.
