Note: Exciting games are quickly becoming the norm this season for the Weasels. This game was a struggle the entire time -- the Weasels would allow a few runs in the top of an inning, manage to make it close in the bottom half of the inning, and then give up more runs in the top of the next inning. The Weasels were always playing catchup, but were never too far behind. Going into the top of the final inning, the game was tied at 11. The Flamingoes scored 4 runs, and then the Weasels went to bat. Dave, Carrie, Mitch, and Susan each singled, scoring Dave and leaving the bases loaded for Newton. Newton hit a double, scoring Carrie and Mitch, advancing Susan to 3B. Julienne hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Susan. With out out, Matt hit a shallow fly ball to left-center. It looked like it would be caught, but it was dropped, giving him a single (but keeping Newton on 2B). And then Azzy hit a ground ball to shortstop, who tried to force Newton at third. The throw was off and bounced off the third baseman's glove into foul territory. Newton ran home and scored the winning run ahead of the throw by the third baseman, who had retrieved the ball. And thus the Weasels come-from-behind victory was completed. Matt hit an in-the-park homerun during the game, and also made a great catch ranging into shallow left field from shortstop. Not to be outdone, Neil made a nice catch of his own in shallow left field. If we gave out a hustle award for this game, there would be a number of prominent candidates, but Susan would likely come out on top -- she beat out several ground balls through sheer hustle, where many others would have assumed they were out. Given how close the game was, each of those hits was crucial. Every fielder contributed to this victory, with the Flamingoes hitting the ball to all fields. Great job, Weasels -- another victory through team effort. Thanks a lot to Dave for subbing on very short notice, and thanks to Eric -- both for moving back to Austin from Houston, and for subbing. Now we just need to get him back on the Weasels!
