Game #6

Date: September 7, 2006
Start: 6:30pm
End: 7:25pm
Where: Havins Field #3
Opponents: The Stingers

We were the home team.

Outcome: LOSS
Final score: 16-8

Note: A very disappointing game. It started out very badly, with Newton dislocating his shoulder during the first inning. For the rest of the game the Weasels played some innings short-handed, and with various subs. Despite this, the Weasels managed to gain a late inning lead. The Weasels came to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 1-run lead and 4 minutes left on the clock. The Stingers managed to finish the inning with under 30 seconds left on the clock, and came back to score 9 runs in the next inning. So close, but yet so far, adding insult to the injury of Newton. Thanks to Jesse and Faye for subbing, and extra thanks to Anthony, Albert, and Joy for subbing on very short notice.

* - There were only three players who never changed defensive positions the entire game: Jesse always played P, Faye always played 3B, and Mykel always played 2B. The rest, however, changed a bit... The Weasels started the game with Newton in LF, Azzy at 1B, Phil in LCF, Brandy at C, Neil at SS, Carrie in RF, and Mitch in RCF.
In the bottom of the first inning, Newton dislocated his shoulder sliding into third base (and was out on the play). His batting spot did not come up again in the first inning. In the top of the second inning, Albert (someone watching the game from the stands) subbed in for Newton and played LF.
In the top of the second or third inning, Azzy did not go out to play defense in order to help Newton. For that inning the Weasels played with 9 defenders -- Brandy played 1B, Carrie played C, Albert played LF, Neil played SS, Mitch played RF, and Phil played CF.
In the bottom of that inning, Azzy was still working on Newton when her turn at bat came up. At this point another person from the stands, Joy, generously agreed to sub in for Azzy and batted for her.
In the top of the next inning, the Weasels were back to 10 defenders -- Brandy at 1B, Carrie at C, Albert in LF, Joy in RF, Neil at SS, Mitch in RCF, and Phil in LCF.
In the top of the next inning, Neil sat out with Azzy to help Newton. So again the Weasels had 9 defenders -- Carrie played C, Brandy played 1B, Joy played RF, Albert played LF, Phil played SS, and Mitch played CF.
In the top of the next inning, Neil returned to the field, and the Weasels were back to 10 defenders -- Brandy at 1B, Carrie at C, Albert in LF, Joy in RF, Neil at SS, Mitch in RCF, and Phil in LCF.
In the top of the sixth inning, Albert had to leave to play in his own game. Another guy from the stands, Anthony subbed in for Albert. So the Weasels played again with 10 defenders -- Brandy at 1B, Carrie at C, Anthony in LF, Joy in RF, Neil at SS, Mitch in RCF, and Phil in LCF.
