Game #1

Date: 5/3/01
Start: 8:20pm
End: 9:15pm
Where: Krieg Field #3
Opponents: SMT Bobmbers

We were the visiting team (meaning we batted first).

Outcome: WIN
Final score: 20-11

Note: The game started off badly for the Weasels. The SMT Bombers scored 8 runs over the first two innings (many of which involved errors by the Weasels), while the Ice Weasels were held scoreless for the first two innings. In the third inning, however, the Ice Weasels' bats woke up. A 9 run third inning (including an in-the-park homerun by Matt), followed by an 8 run fourth inning, put the Weasels back in the lead. The defense also returned, holding the Bombers to just 3 runs over the final three innings. Neil made a number of key outs at shortstop, and everyone's defense improved after the Weasels took the lead. This game also featured what is arguably the most impressive play in the history of the Ice Weasels. One out, runners on second and third. The batter gets a hit through to the outfield, and the lead runner scores easily. The second runner is on their way home when the ball is thrown to Matt, but the throw is off, up the third base line a bit. The runner was almost to the plate when Matt catches the ball and throws himself into a full horizontal dive toward home plate. His outstretched glove tags the runner just before the runner touched the plate, getting them out and preventing the run. In this incredible game, the Weasels overcame an early 8 run deficit to win 20-11. Great way to start the Summer season, Weasels!
