Note: This game was almost called off because some of the field lights were not working. Most of the infield lights were working, and the umpires agreed to let the game take place as long as both teams were okay with it. After Crown & Anchor scored 8 runs in the first inning, the Weasels wondered if they should have played after all. The defense settled down after the first inning, though, and played very well for the rest of the game. The Weasels offense was steady, but not very powerful, scoring 1 run per inning for the first four innings of the game. There was very little time left in the game when Crown & Anchor came up to bat. The Weasels were down, 12-7, and knew that they needed to get another chance to bat. Through Pete's fantastic pitching and the team's solid defense, the Weasels made it a 1-2-3 inning, allowing no baserunners. However, the umpires ruled that time had expired by 3 seconds when the final out was recorded, so another inning was not played. There was a great deal of resentment on the part of the Weasels, because the umpires had been dragging their feet for the entire game. There was no sense in complaining about it, so the Weasels congratulated the other team and left the field. Despite the loss, the Ice Weasesls played well. The offensive highlight was Matt's three-run, in-the-park homerun. Brandy played third base with great intensity, and had to deal not once but twice with runners trying to dislodge the ball from her glove as they slid into the base. After the first inning of the game, the Weasels held Crown & Anchor to just 4 runs, while scoring 6 of their own. Once again, the Weasels were not outmatched, and will approach their next game with renewed strength.
