Notes: A very exciting game that was close the entire way. Going into the 6th inning, time was almost expired and the Weasels were trailing by a single run. Azzy led off the top of the 6th by hitting a hard line drive single to left field. The left fielder misplayed it and it skipped to the fence, allowing Azzy to get to third base. Neil was up next, and drove her in with a bloop single to shallow center field, tying the game. Unfortunately, the Weasels scored no more runs and entered the bottom of the 6th inning with the score still tied. Things didn't look good after the first two opposing batters reached (a walk followed by a single), but the Weasels finally recorded an out when the next batter popped out to Newton in shallow right-center field. Next up was a male batter who got a 3-1 count. If he walked, he would drive in the winning run, and the game would be over. However, he swung at the next pitch and hit a ground ball to Chris at shortstop. He fielded the ball and ran to second base to force the runner from first base. He gunned the ball to Amanda but the throw was short. She managed a great scoop to complete the inning-ending double play. Time had expired by this point, so the game went into the 7th inning in 1-pitch format. The Weasels came out swinging, and scored two runs in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, the Weasels held the opponents scoreless to win the game. The offensive leaders of the game for the Weasels were Zook (2 singles and 2 walks in 4 plate appearances) and Newton (3 singles in 4 plate appearances). Other than the double play already mentioned, there were several other impressive defensive plays made by the Weasels. The outfielders were kept busy and all made good catches throughout the game. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the leadoff batter hit a tough popup that Lucy tracked down in the gap between 1B and 2B. Later that same inning, with runners on first and second base and one out, the batter hit a ground ball to Chris at shortstop. He tossed the ball to Lucy at second base to force the runner coming from first base, and she threw to Amanda at first base in time to complete the inning-ending double play. In the bottom of the 4th inning, with runners on first and second base and no outs, the batter hit a ground ball back to Neil at pitcher. He threw to Zook at second base to force the runner from first base, and she threw to Lucy at first base to complete the double play. Later in the inning, Azzy caught a tricky foul popup at catcher to end the inning. In the bottom of the 5th inning with runners on first and second base and one out, the batter hit a line drive into shallow left field. Tim fielded the ball and threw to Jason at third base just in time to force the runner coming from second base. The next batter hit a ground ball into left field. Again, Tim fielded the ball and threw to Jason at third base. The runner beat the throw, but he overslid the bag and Jason tagged him out to end the inning. Great game, Weasels!
